  1. [Calgary] Free Burritos from Mucho Burrito

    Mucho Burrito Fresh Mexican Grill, the fastest-growing Mexican chain in Canada, is celebrating the Calgary Stampede with the opening of its 36th Canadian location. Hungry stampeders are encouraged to check out the newest location at 20 Crowfoot Crescent NW, Calgary, for the grand opening event. On Saturday, July 16, the store will be offering free burritos between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. In addition, 25 lucky guests will win free burritos for the year by taking part in a random draw.

    When I first heard about Mucho Burrito, I was kind of excited. I fell in love with the U.S. chain Chipotle, and was hoping this would be similar. One evening a while ago we ordered a bunch of items for takeout, which my family and I sampled. I can’t remember exactly what we ordered, but we tried a few different varieties of quesadillas, gourmet tacos, and some taco chips. Everything was quite fresh tasting, although a couple of the tacos got a little soggy on the short ride home. The quesadillas were my favourite. I was a bit disappointed by the chips and salsa, as these are really good at Chipotle and just okay here.

    I have yet to try the burritos though, which is Mucho Burrito’s signature dish. This would be a great time to try it out!

  2. New Calgary Stampede Midway Food

    Although I usually stick the the tried-and-true corn dog and mini doughnuts, it’s interesting to see the new and delicious (though not nutritious) food they create each year at Stampede. Here’s this year’s line-up of new midway treats:

    2011 Must-trys? Turkeytini, Doughnut Burger, Pork Chop on-a-Stick

    Deep Fried Goodies: Deep fried Pop Tarts, Colossal Onion, Kubie Korn Balls, Calamari and 10 different flavours of Poutine!

    Desserts and Drinks: The Moowich – Chocolate chip cookie, ice cream, chocolate chip cookie

    Snacks: Samosas, Kubie Korn Dog, Gourmet Pretzel Sticks, Sausage Hoagie, Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwich, Mac & Cheese Pizza

    I feel the indigestion coming on already… which treats will you be trying?

  3. [Calgary] Alley Burger Becomes a Food Truck

    Charcut’s bringing its famous Alley Burger to a food truck near you! I can’t wait as I have yet to try their tasty burgers, and Calgary’s food truck scene is sadly non-existent.
